You really might not want to use the term "prestige" or agree with it, but you know it's out there. I mean, law and medical degrees are greatly respected, and thus, I think 99% of us would say those two degrees are very prestigious, if not the most. But if you were to rank various professional schools in order of prestige, how would you rank them, and why? Consider these professional programs:

Law
Medicine
Pharmacy
Veterinary Medicine
MBA

There are also others, but I think these are the primary ones. I'm only focusing on professional degrees here, not graduate Master's or PhD degrees.

Your two cents?

It's really about one's own value system, isn't it?
That's how I determine prestige, anyway.

So here's my own ranking, with which I'm sure many folks will disagree. I bet you'll get widely varying answers, since not everyone shares the same core values.

Medicine - it's about the preservation of human life - the highest value

Pharmacy - much less training than med school, but still critical to the preservation of human life

Law - at its best, it's about the preservation of social order (district attorneys, state prosecutors) and defending the rights of the least of us (legal aid, public defenders), but admittedly, at its worst, it's just about preserving other people's ability to exploit others (corporate law)

Veterinary Medicine - preservation of pets. What can I say? Pets are not people.

MBA - preservation of one's own money and perhaps that of a corporation (CFO and such). Everyone's got an MBA these days, so I think of them as a dime a dozen, and without much social value.

MBA is first and medicine and law is second most prestigious.
