I said it before and will say it again do not confuse slavery with oppression. Anyone can be a slave it just free labor or to pay off a dept. You can have effects from oppression of racism, hate, murders, discrimination's and brutal treated. You can be a slave and still be tread like royalty but been oppress is different than slavery. It just so happen that Blacks were oppressed as free and as slaves.
The only effects that the history of blacks have is during Jim Crow and segregation.
However hundred of years of free labor went into this nation and into the white community, None of which where ever invested into the people who deserve it. Which was the point of Segregation.
The effects of Jim Crow-
1. 70% of elderly blacks have no financial assets, because of Jim Crow and oppression all the wealth they should have been paid where never paid. So during this time people with nothing then still have nothing now. That's why Dr. king was marching for Jobs because whites who had them didn't hire blacks, this was in the late 1960's.
2. Distrust of whites-lies and hate for so long cause most blacks to distrust whites and the system. If i was to say a lie about the white man set so and so up to catch you slipping they would believe me because ALL blacks found out that their history was base on lies by whites and many blacks would not even be surprise. They know all to well that the reason they were kept slaves and oppress was because they where kept "fools"(Willie Lynch). That's why they took away their language, religion, culture and customs. That's why they made it a law saying they can't read or write, to replace that which the of a slave.
3. So what do you have you have a race that were rob for over 200 years and never got paid. You have a race that were oppressed for another 100 years to keep that with was taken from them away. Then you have a race of poor people who are just getting equal rights 40 years ago. So you have whites with a 300+ years of advantage not because some own slaves but because they were white and not black. Whites fail to realize even if none of their ancestors own a slave their were still greatly privilege to be white. And even free blacks were disadvantge for being black.
If to put two people together with the same advantage and gave both $100, and said invest it. And one of them took $100 from the other not only do you have one twice and strong you have one who is now in dept $100. So in other words not only did the white race have 300+ years head start but it came from the oppression and at the expense of the black race. Because of this Black have to be strong to pull themself up to competiton line first, and be twice as strong to make it to equal level. And everyone can't be like Oprah.

The physical act of slavery is over, but the memories still linger. Enough has been done during hundreds of years of slavery to demoralize an entire group. Slavery had a crippling effect on the way in which black people look at themselves as efforts were made to deprive them of their name, ethnic group and culture. Because of this, the black person today has become a wanderer

It depends on who you ask.
If you ask a realist he will tell you "nothing" because they believe blacks should not use slavery or Jim Crow as an excuse for poor behavior, and that they should take the bull by the horns and deal with their problems rather than blaming people for them and doing nothing about them.
If you ask an ACLU card-carrying black they'll tell you "everything" because they believe the black race would rule the planet if slavery had never existed. These people tend to blame all whites, living and dead, for the problems of blacks today.
It is very possible that the truth is somewhere in the middle; mostly it's an attitude problem shared by many people of many colors who need to grow up and learn to respect one another as human beings before any lasting change can be achieved.

My parents still can't stand white ppl. Though they have white friends they are true haters of anything Interracial. And they always make stupid comments about white ppl which I can't stand to no end. But me personally as an individual say that times were different in the past, africans were sold into slavery by their own ppl and hell there has been other slaves than just the black ones in the past. So I say my ppl need to leave the past in the past, strive hard for what they want and really do something with their lives. Cuz white ppl are still going to have the same opinion of us til we get off our asses get jobs, and just stop all the damn drama.

I agree with I guess everything said here. Blacks or most of those that I know think and say in so many words that whites are keeping them down and they need to do more to get treated as well as whites who do next to nothing. But think about it really, how many all white collages are you aware of? How many all black collages can you think of? How many all white miss america contests are there? How about the miss black america? Are any of these things fair? how can one race say another race is trying to keep them down when it goes both ways yet neither side can see what they are doing?

Absolutely nothing. If blacks want to bring back their past as a cripple for the future, so be it. They've pushed us into affirmative action and have many more priveleges than whites. If they still want to hold something against people that have done absolutely nothing to them (but are of different race), that's their problem, not ours.

i think we should learn from our past but we realy need to stop being so angry about what happened in the past to someone else by someone else, people that we dont even know, im tired of being angry from the stories of the past, i need to take care of my situations for the future and ignore and overcome those that want to keep me back because of my pigment, its just retarted. i go by this saying that came to me in a dream. There Is Always A Possibility, If You Dont Believe That Then Step Aside. i have a lot of potential and the past is the past, i respect those that went through it but i must step forward and stop looking back

Their spirits/minds are still chained in many ways.As the saying goes"the blind leading the blind" We have made great strides yet we have a ways to go. It has to begin within. Stop limiting our young and ourselves with negative messages i.e. you can't do that or be that or achieve that. We are only limited by our own imaginations no matter who you are or where you come from. Peace..

It makes a (not really) good excuse to expect something for nothing.NO former American slaves or slave owners are alive today.NO ONE in the US has any memory or experience of slavery, except for foreigners who were slaves in those mid east and african countries that it still exists in.

if slavery had not occurred, then probably the blacks at the time would have gotten paid, saved and invested money, supported their children in getting the best education, which would allow them to make more money and continue to support their families and communities.
