There are several techniques that people use today to make brownfields usable. Some brownfield sites have been planted entirely with sunflowers and other wildflowers that (somewhat) clean the soil. Some landscape architects are turning them into parks after safety measures. It's actually a huge trend right now, because the location of many brownfield sites have the potential for great public spaces or high profits.
