Intelligent people are supposed to see all diverse possibilities. Now, if they are also honest, they would have to tell people that they are not sure about many things, and even change their points of view as more data arrives.

This would make them look as flip-floppers and not suited to be leaders.

So, to be successful in politics, you cannot be both, intelligent AND honest. You have to be either dumb or a liar. Right?

Biggest problem (I think) is that the political system itself is crooked. Which means that the people who would make the best leaders have NO chance of ever being elected.

When I think of intelligence, or honesty, I have NEVER thought of a politician. It is only the fool who Never changes his point of view. It takes a person of great character to admit they are wrong. Sadly, in todays politics, not nearly enough have the strength of character to admit to their mistakes. They would rather hide their blunders neatly under the carpet.

Intelligent, Yes. Honest, Never. All politicians are crooks. The higher up they get, the more cheating and stealing they do.

They CAN be, but usually they are not... take Ted Kennedy, John Kerry and John McCaine, for example
It seems the yester years had better candidates: George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Truman, Eisenhower to name a few.
