First, you try to simplify as much as possible. That means, on the left side, you would want to multiply out. This would give you:
x^2 + 5x - 24 = 2x - 14.
Now, we see it is a quadratic because the highest degree is 2. We move everything on the left side so that the right side equals 0 and the quadratic is in standard form:
x^2 + 3x - 10 = 0
Now, we try to factor, and luckily, we can:
(x + 5)(x - 2) = 0
and x = -5 and 2.
If you need help in factoring, feel free to message me.

the answer is x = 2, -5
solution:
(x + 8)(x - 3) = 2x - 14
==> x^2 +8x - 3x - 24 = 2x - 14
==> x^2 +5x - 24 = 2x - 14
==> x^2 +3x -24 = -14
==> x^2 + 3x - 10 = 0
i need to know two numbers which when added would give +3 and when multiplied would give -10.. the numbers are -2 and +5
==>x^2 + 5x - 2x - 10 = 0
==> x(x +5)-2(x+5) = 0
==> (x - 2)(x+5) = 0
==> x = 2, -5

Sorry for my poor English:
(x + 8)(x - 3) = 2x - 14
First remove the brackets on the left part:
x^2 + 5x -24 = 2x - 14
Then bring everything to the left:
x^2 + 3x -10 = 0
Don't know the English word for this step:
(x-2)(x+5) = 0
So x=2 or x=-5
(2+8)(2-3) = -10 = 2*3 - 14
(-5+8)(-5-3) = -24 = 2*-5 - 14

move everything to the left side and set it to 0:
(x + 8)(x - 3) = 2x - 14.
x^2 + 5x - 24 - 2x + 14 = 0
x^2 + 3x - 10 = 0; so x^2 + 3/2x = 10
x^2 + 3/2x + 9/4 = 10 + 9/4 or 49/4
multiply 3x by 1/2
square the result to discover third term
(x + 3/2)^2 = 49/4
x + 3 = plus or minus 7/2
x = -3 plus or minus 7/2
x = 1/2 and x = - 6 1/2

okay simplify: First side, use FOIL (First, Outer, Inner, Last)
x * x (first) x * -3 (outer) +8 * x (inner) +8 * x (last) getting:
x^2 -3x +8x -24 = 2x - 14 simplify more by combining like terms:
x^2 +5x -24 = 2x - 14
(now subtract 2x from each side and add 14 to each side)
x^2 +5x -2x -24 +14 = 2x -2x +14 - 14
x^2 +3x - 10 = 0
Now, factoring: (opposite of FOIL)
(x + 5)(x - 2) = 0 therefore:
x = -5, +2
Hope that helps.

you have to use the F.O.I.L method
the F stands for Front
the O stands for Outside
the I stands for Inner
the L stands for Last
(x+8)(x-3)=2x-14
Xsquared-24+8x-3x
then you would combine like terms NOTE:if the variable is squared and the other variable isn't then the varibles can NOT be combined. variables are to be put first in the equation
Xsquared+5x-24=2x-14
-2x -2x -to get the variables one side and
numbers on the other
Xsquared+3x-24=-14
+24 +24 - add 24 to get the # 24 on the oppsite
of the variables
Xsquared+3x=10- to get rid of the Xsquared you have to divide it
in half which is X by itself and 10 is 20
x+3x=10-combine like terms(simlify the equation)
4x=20- the you solve for x which is 5,6
After you get the hang of it, It will become much easier

Expand the brackets. Simplify the left side. Move the right side over to the left. Simplify again. It becomes a polynomial that you can solve easily.
x^2 + 3x - 10 = 0
(x + 5)(x - 2) = 0
x = -5 or x = 2

Expand (x+8)(x-3). Move all terms to the left side of the equation (by adding and subtracting the same quantity from both sides). Combine like terms. The result is a quadratic equation. Solve by using the quadratic formula.

first foil the brackets: x2(x squared)-3x+8x-24=2x-14
bring everything to one side: x2-3x+8x-2x-24+14=0
then collect like terms: x2+3x-10=0
then factor it: (x+5) (x-2)
X= -5 X=2
welll atleast i think that's how u do it!!!
i can't actuallly remember:(
