For the second problem,
"Determine whether the series is convergent or divergent. If it is convergent, find its sum."

∑ (4^n + 3^n) / (12^n) will converge, because the denominator will get much larger than the numerator as n gets large.

∑ [(4^n + 3^n) / (12^n)]
= ∑ (4^n / 12^n) + ∑ (3^n / 12^n)
= ∑ (1 / 3^n) + ∑ (1 / 4^n)

For each series, the sum = the first term divided by (1 - the common ratio of terms).
∑ (1 / 3^n) = (1 / 3) / [(1 - 1 / 3)] = (1 / 3) / (2 / 3) = 1 / 2
∑ (1 / 4^n) = (1 / 4) / [(1 - 1 / 4)] = (1 / 4) / (3 / 4) = 1 / 3

∑ (1 / 3^n) + ∑ (1 / 4^n)
= (1 / 2) + (1 / 3)
= 5 / 6.
