What is the purpose to legs on a "Daddy Long Legs" (Crane Fly)..... They only live 24hrs and you can pull off all their legs and they still function as normal...... Go Figure!
I have not done this to one of god's creatures but have witnessed it done by my very young son

Well now, thanks for asking this question.

The reason for the Crane Fly “Daddy Long Legs” to have legs is an evolutionary protection against predators.
Basically the legs are dispensible, when the Crane Fly flies through the air its legs flutter about mainly behind it, when their main predators (birds and bats) try to eat them the legs are a distraction and hopefully they will just get a mouth full of legs which the Fly doesn’t really miss anyway and leave the body with the wings to go on its merry way to lay or fertilise eggs for the next generation of Daddy Long Legs to do the exact same!
They may only live for 24 hours but they enjoy themselves !lol

The worst thing about Daddy Long legs is that they lay their eggs in your lawn (if you have one) and the thing that emerges from the egg before turning into a Crane Fly is called a Leather Jacket and it eats the roots of your grass!

The other eewww thing about them is that when they're flying they're out of control and if you happen to come face to face with a Daddy Long legs....you end up looking just like one of them yourself for all the hand and leg movements you'll be doing just to try and keep it away from touching you!........Well I do!

Poor daddy long legs. I did that when I was little. Not pull there legs on purpose though. Just tried to grab them and the leg fell off. I reckon it would have hurt them.

They are also known as leather jackets. I had a plague of them in one dresssing room, on a very warm evening. They do seem to fall to pieces rather easily, don't they? I'm not a mathematician but perhaps it is a defence mechanism and their design is averaged over the number of legs they can lose without a discernable loss of effectivness over a 24 hour life span? Stop him doing that, by the way. It's not nice.
