unfortunately, only a digital video cam can connect directly to your computer thru a firewire or usb. you need an analog-to- digital video converter, an external or internal type - whichever is easier for you. some tv tuner cards work as a digital video capture as well as a tv receiver. check it out online - you'll be amazed of the wide selection out there:) for a laptop you need a usb or firewire analog-to-digital video converter.

my other suggestion would be for you to transfer your hi-8 videos to dvd using a stand alone dvd recorder - then edit it on your computer using a video editing software.

at the starting up connect your digicam including your computing device and then open the digicam. locate the folder with video and move them on your computing device. with the intention to play them on your media participant, I recommend you to remodel them to commonplace video format. Like AVI, WMV etc. desire can help you.
