I personally think that if you live in the wilderness or near it that you should accept the possibility of being killed by a large predator. I dont think it is right to kill an animal that was only hunting to survive or protect its offspring, they have every right to eat us and I am damn glad that bears dont come after and kill people that kill them. I think it is wrong of people to think we are so above predation that an animal who eats or kills one of us should be punished by taking its life.
I live in the bush in Canada and I accept the fact that I may one day be killed and eaten by a predator, in fact I would rather be killed by an animal with intent only to survive and feed than a human who might kill me without reason and torture me first, then do sick things after. What do you think? Defend your position with a logical argument, not insults please!

remember I am not saying that you shouldnt attempt to kill an animal WHILE it is attacking you, that is self defense and the animal would do it too... I just mean whats the point in killing an animal as punishment after it has attacked or killed a human. Also children of animals are killed all of the time by people, yet the animals dont come after and punish us for it.. instead they protect thier children as best they can and accept that sometimes they get killed, by other living creatures. In all honesty I would rather my child be killed by a bear than molested and killed by a human.

Humanity was to live in the role of stewardship with nature...this means caring for everyone and thing including the planet.....instead humanity forces its self upon the natural world by deforestation and uncontrolled constructions of concrete, etc. This practice causes nature to collide with so-called civilization and the result can be disasterous. Where are the animals supposed to go? and how are they supposed to survive if their natural environment is destroyed and encroached upon by people? The animal is never at fault...never...humans need to be more responsible and stay out of the natural territory of the beasts...they are being only as God made them. By the by, if you should be attacked then you will be, perhaps, comforted to know that you will not feel the pain whilst being mauled. This is for certain...if you survive the attack then, later, the pain receptors kick in and the agony begins. Best to learn as much as you can about the terrain and the wildlife that lives there and resolve yourself to avoid contact as much as possible. When an animal attacks it has nothing to do with morals as they run on instinct as the Creator made them. If there are bears, for instance, learn how they respond to intruders and how to tell the signs of imminent attack...learn as much as possible about each predatory beast and give them wide berth and respect and all should be well. Grizzilies are so unpredictable, and so intelligent, that you may discover that all preparations are for nothing....solution? stay out of grizzly territory...use this formula for all wildlife and walk confidently without fear as this will draw wildlife in the wilderness and in the urban environment (although these will be predatory humans) ...fear is such an intense emotion that it triggers the predatory instincts of both species. Turning your back on large cats, bears, dogs, etc. and running will ensure the attack upon your fleeing person as it triggers the hunting instincts of the animals. Have respect for yourself, nature and you should do just fine. Enjoy those marvelous nature trips...you are fortunate to be there.

I have a really hard time believing the dog though a CHILD was a chew toy. Dogs are incredible at reading humans. Better than any species studied- dolphins, chimps, whatever. A dog knows the difference between a human being and any other object- living or not. I agree that most pits don't kill that way, but we know nothing about this pit. Most dogs won't attack babies, either. Who knows what this dog was thinking, but in a legal sense, the dog was the proximate cause of the death. Lots of things can be said about the mother (and are being said), but the dog is the reason the child died. This is why the propaganda that "all dogs can be rehabilitated" and "there are no dangerous dogs, only negligent humans" are dangerous. Yes, the mother was negligent, but a dog fit for human society isn't going to kill an infant regardless of how negligent the owner. People can hardly be blamed for going to the shelter and adopting a pit mix of indeterminate origin and bringing it home to their household to live side by side with an infant. You see every show on animal planet praising the virtues of adopting, how pits just have a bad rap, how they can be a savior by rehabilitating the poor, sweet creatures. It's ridiculous. I don't have children, so I have feel comfortable taking a gamble with shelter dogs. When I have children, my dogs will be old and trained, and any new dogs will come from a breeder who I trust and respect.

I live out in the country and was brought up if a animal hurts a human or is sick we just shoot it. I have shot a few sick ones myself when I'm here alone. It's a animal....Hubby hunts and kills deer I clean them and put them in the freezer. I guess I'm just use to stuff like that. We have bears moving down from the mountains here and if we see one we are suppose to kill it. Some kind of wolf or something else too. Haven't seen any bears so far hope not too.

No, I don't think it should be killed. If you wander into the territory of a wild animal, it can and will do anything it can to defend said territory. What would be the point of killing it anyways? As a punishment and a warning to other wild animals? Besides, there are PLENTY more where that came from.

I agree with your point about getting killed and eaten by a wild animal versus getting killed by a homicidal maniac.

i believe that we should NOT kill that animal... i mean seriously, can u blame it? the animals try 2 survive. and we r walking all over them like we r the rulers of nature. i agree wit u... id rather be killed by an animal then by a person and etc. etc.

we basically dont really have the right 2 kill animals... i mean, look at the reasons we have about killing animals:
--food
--money
Ex.
~~furs
~~carpets
~~for fun
--just because they "feel" like it
--revenge

animals arent getting revenge on us when we kill them... and we shouldn't get revenge on them.. they r just animals trying 2 survive. i just hope that one day we will stop destroying earth with what we call "civilization".

I agree with your analysis: if we continue to encroach on their habitat, it becomes increasingly likely that we will die at their "hands". Should the animal be killed? That depends. If the animal is a threat to other humans (rabid for example) or if the animal was wounded to begin with (sometimes animals who would usually run will turn and fight if they are injured) then kill them. Otherwise, it is survival of the fittest and natural selection.

I do not really want to defend my position because I agree with you. A certain amount of responsibility should be taken by anyone who is willing to live in or near the wilderness.

Point well taken. Everything on earth is trying to survive, however I think humans are the only species that kill out of malice. I agree with you.

no way!
if humans are being killed by wild animals it's probably because the humans are invading their habitat.
Plus they are probably a lot more worthy of life than most humans.
