They're from fungal spores that spread when you hit them with a golf club, or even pick them up. Try picking them with a plastic bag over your hand that you catch them in, then pour boiling water where they were. This will kill the grass too so be careful.

Depends on where they're growing...
Most of the time mushrooms grow in areas where water accumulates and stagnates.
Check with your local home & garden retailer to see which product will be better for killing em without destroying the yard.

I'd like to know myself. Maybe Round Up will work. Don't mow over them, that makes them spread!!
