it was once described to me that there are two seperate and distinct times.... The time on the clock as we move forward into our future, and the time of the universe as it ages. One is winding up, while the other is winding down...
Yes the earth is a living organism that is dying piece by piece. The clock is almost done ticking...

I think the world is like a proton or a neutron of something huge. As infinity goes it makes sense to me that things can be so small we can't see them, such as what's on the surface of an atom, or incredibly big, like our whole universe being only a strand in the dna of some huge being. Maybe it was all them drugs we took back in the 60's and 70's, but to me, that's what I've come to believe.

the earth IS NOT alive....look at the necessary requirements of life....there are something like 11 or 12...and if something is living it has to meet ALL OF THEM......last time i checked rocks and metals are not alive.

I think the world is alive. We live on it because it's alive. If it wasn't alive we probably wouldn't even exist.

Yes, of course its alive. How do we know? For one thing, it REACTS to its atmosphere and heals itself, consider the shrinking ozone.

Yep, it's one giant, living, breathing organism, with human parasites infesting it.
And for your other question -- because most humans are parasitic and don't care about longterm... just the immediate and survival.

The planet has life on it it is not alive itself.
We cannot accidentally damage it to the point we kill ourselves.
