What is Travertine Tile?

Why is it so expensive? Pros or cons?

Its a type of stone, similar to marble / limestone.
Can be used indoors or out - though can be porous and stain.
Needs looking after to mantain an "as new look" but nothing too crazy - wouldn't install it in a kids bathroom though.
