Well, I like my grandparents music. One set of grands was into Big Band and the other set was into hillbilly & blue grass.
That being said...I think my man Neil Young said it best when he said Hey Hey My My-Rock and roll will never die! There's more to the picture, than meets the eye. Hey hey, my my..."

Technically, Classical is the oldest music form that has remained to this day. Rock has only been around for a little over 50 years. Classical is over 150 years old and still going.

I'm from the older demographic. I grew up in the 80's listening to soul, rock and country. Alternative was coming into their own. Rap was coming in. Hip-hop was being born. If rock is the daddy, blues and country are the grandparents. But rock will live forever. Rap will eventually die. I was hoping by 1990 it would've. Yuck!
My choice is my parents music. I love the 50's, 60's music. You always have to go home and remember where this new stuff comes from. To me it's like looking at the old photo albums in your mom's closet. Keep rockin' all.

Rock is a bit rebellious. Humans by nature like to go against the grain sometimes, So Rock music is an outlet for us. It is also a bit more expressive than other genres and that is yet another outlet we need.

Demographics... the more in the market the more it is promoted because of the potential return on investment.
Rap has a narrower slice now but still fits a need and will morph into a longer trend.
In the US I suspect Hispanic artists will start to be heard from more and more.

i think its because there are so many subgenres of it, theres something for almost everyone under the broad rock category, as opposed to someone saying they like or dont country and there is generally only one 'type' of country music.. or something like that lol i got lost after the word 'opposed' heh heh
