Just re-installed windows XP PRO on a new hard drive for a friend.....it never missed a beat and all went well....it was plugged into my CRT monitor...and all was working 100%

Took it all rouind to my pals house...and his (fairly old Flat Screen sony Monitor) was recognised straigh away and it fired up a treat...all was well. But every now and again the screen goes completly weierd....like a real display problem.....according to the monitor menu...it says its a signal error?? Reboot and all is well again.......it just happens every now and again......!! Monitor on the way out? I hammered the PC after the insall....and it performed faultlessly on my CRT monitor

If it works on one monitor and not the other its probably the monitor.

Have you tried the funky monitor on a different computer?

Could there be a lose wire on the monitor. Make sure the connection to the computer are correctly in and tight as they can be. Try other monitors? You could be right and the one monitor could be going out. Has that particular one ever had problems in the past?

Tell your friend to check connections. Make sure all of the plugs on the motherboard and such are nice and snug. If problems persist, tell him/her to take out the video card and put it back in. Making sure that there is a nice snug fit.

looks like a connection problem but try the drivers re installation first then get the monitor checked check for any damaged pins on the connection first

Hmm - I'd say check the connections, maybe even reseat it on the back. Perhaps it is his flat screen. One way to tell - put 'his' monitor on 'your' PC - same results? If so - bingo.
