There were rumors in the late 60s/early 70s that he had died in a car crash due to decapitation and been replaced with a lookalike. There were allegedly clues everywhere:

on the Abby Road album cover it shows Paul walking barefoot across the street while everyone else wore shoes

on the "Butcher" cover (which was banned in the US) it shows a doll head being held next to Paul's head supposedly a reference to his being decapitated.

The Sgt. Pepper album probably held the most clues:

Mourners are standing around a fresh grave
around the grave is a cracked head (representing Paul's injury)

A shirt that says "Welcome the Rolling Stones" (their number 1 competitor at the time)

a toy car on one knee and a bloody left-handed driving glove on the other (Paul was left handed)

A TV that's not turned on representing the news blackout about his death

Over the letter L in Beatles can be seen McCartney's rugby trophy.

Under the word "BEATLES" yellow flowers in the shape of a bass guitar can be seen, representing the instrument Paul often played.

Also, the guitar is facing the direction it would if a left-handed guitarist were playing it. Paul was the only left-handed guitarist in The Beatles.

Within the flowers comprising the guitar shape, the word "PAUL" followed by a question mark can be seen.

Also, there are only three strings on the guitar, where a bass guitar usually has four, representing the loss of one member of the four person band.

McCartney is the only person holding a wooden instrument, representing his coffin, and the instrument is the only one that is black, representing death.

The instrument is a cor anglais, the only instrument shown on the cover which is not used in a marching band. Paul's "true" instrument would have been the tuba, which is sitting unused at feet of the wax figure of Ringo.

Paul is the only Beatle wearing a "cool" color (blue), while the other three Beatles are all wearing warm colors.

McCartney is the only person with a hand over his heart, a religious symbol for blessing the dead.

While John, Ringo and George are standing at an angle, Paul is facing straight forward, making Paul appear to be another cardboard cutout.

There is also an open hand immediately above Paul's head. In some cultures this represents that the person is dead or about to die. (An open palm above Paul's head can also be seen on the Yellow Submarine album cover.)

Also, if you listen closely to the end of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, between the drawn out lyrics, hearts and club, it sounds as if someone in the background is screaming, "Paul is dead! He's really really dead!"

There are a ton more clues on that album and many others and in quite a few of the lyrics. True? Who knows.

Nope, the dead Beatles are John Lennon and George Harrison... Ringo and Paul are still alive.

There is a theory among Beatles fans that claims Paul died long ago, but I'll leave that to someone who actually understands the theory.

He probably wishes he was. He generously offered his ex-wife Heather Mills 55 million in a divorce settlement. Sir Paul is worth 1.8 billion but this skanky 38 yr. old ex wants 175 million in the settlement.

He's alive and kicking himself in the *** for not getting a prenuptial agreement before tying the knot with this greedy b***h!

Of course not. I do believe, sadly, that he has not recovered from the death of his lovely Linda. I think he is floundering. He'll regain himself, I'm sure. From reading about him since I was 15, 42 years ago, I would say that it will take a woman who really loves and respects him to help him regain his balance. He is definitely not the bachelor type. He is a loving, caring man, who delighted in the domestic bliss of his marriage to Linda, his "baby." I think right now, with a girl of 27, younger than his 2nd wife, he's probably "showing her!!" Soon, he will settle down and find a WOMAN, and THAT'S when he will really come to life once again.

Some say it was a gag. However, they supposedly did electronic voice tests of Paul before and after the car crash date, and they're different. Also, that they had a Beatles look-a-like contest in England soon afterward is suspicious.

No he isn't; I think it is unfortunate that people are prejudging either Paul or Heather when they don't have "all the facts". I was surprised when Paul remarried but then the human heart is fragile.
