You all cannot be smart!

Most people aren't even aware of their level of intelligence unless they have had the opportunity to have it tested, and even then I'm not sure that I agree with some of the findings being more than a measure of a person's potential to learn. Yes, some people do think that they are smarter than others and that may in fact be the case given how much they have been afforded opportunities to learn. Still, the fact that they had those opportunities should not be used as a basis for judging themselves as being better than someone else. They should be thankful for the opportunities they had and want more for those that did not have them.

I think it has something to do with ego-centrism. We tend not to look at other peoples perspectives and just assume our own is the best. In a larger sense it's like ethnocentrism where ones cultures are seen as superior to any others. You assign people into categories based on your own standing. If you can't put yourself in others shoes then you will assume your category is the best. However if you are able to see others perspectives then you will be able to make an average category and then put others and yourself into above or below average. These are just my thoughts on the topic!

What about the people waiting in line at Walmart? There's a pretty large chunk of the population that's not thinking about anything, let alone how smart they are.

I believe, that regardless of my I.Q., I can learn something from almost everyone I meet. I don't expect everyone to be able to explain string theory, but everyone can teach me something based on their life experience. I may learn something about a different culture. Even if it's only a new recipe... my life will have been enriched by this person.

If "average" IQ is 100 then many people are smarter than "average".

We all think of ourselves as being on the far side of the well-known bell curve for the same reason that we like to think of this (holds up thumb and forefinger 3 inches apart) as 6 inches.

WOO-hoo, WOO-hoo-hoo! (I love that song)
