1964-D were minted but never released exactly 316,076.
1974 aluminum cent only one survives in the Smithsonian.

Here are other cool ones in the museum.

The 1964 dollar was never released to circulation. I didn't even know for sure whether they were made.

I used to collect coins. There are lots of great websites and lots of interesting stories!

There are none.. supposedly. ;)

Over 300,000 were minted, and then they were all melted. Rumor has it that some mint employees managed to save some, but none haver ever "publicly" surfaced. However a few are "rumored" to exist.

(The casinos had convinced the mint to reproduce them, but, because there was so much criticism over the look and neccessity of such large coins, they were dropped and they were melted down.)
