One take a deep breath and two relax. You're contradicting yourself a lot. You are seventeen and should be having a blast. You're young and free and could do some much, but at the same time you say no. No to everything. Don't say no. Stop putting so much thought into every little thing that is happening and just live for the moment. You have the whole summer to do anything you want to do. Be smart though don't do anything stupid yah know? Let go of all the worrying and please don't spend your summer indoors. Have fun with your friends. Don't use being lazy and socially awkward as an excuse for not enjoying yourself. The only one holding you back is YOU! A lot of teens stress out about the littlests things and I can tell you that sometimes I feel like same way you do, that my life is going no where. What you have to remember is you're only seventeen and you have your whole like ahead of you. Just have fun this summer and stop worrying just enjoy the sun!

She would work as a junior graphics designer or a junior web designer. This mostly depends on her talents. Being talented in graphics and/or web design is much more important than mastering a computer tool. Any computer software is just a tool to help materializing some actual product. So, a computer tool will never replace human talent. At least not yet :)

I suggest that she prepares a CV and posts it to different recruitment web sites and also to some graphics companies or advertisement companies.

Sounds like she may be interested in Graphic Design if she is in to web sites, photo editing and such. The most widely used web page design software is Macromedia Dreamweaver and Macromedia Flash. For graphics, get your hands on Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Start taking the classes now as these are intense applications. Your graphic/web design companies will look for extensive experience in these apps. You can major in graphic design at virtually any 4 year college.

Computers is a huge field, with many, many specializations. I'm a systems engineer with years of experience, but know almost nothing about programming or web design. Since she seems interested in graphics and web design, she should focus on graphics design and web design/publishing.
For college, she should take general IT courses to get a good background in computer fundamentals, and take whatever they offer in her particular field. However, most of what she needs to know isn't taught in college. She'll need to get books on web/graphics design and study on her own.
The best way to learn is to do. She might consider interning at a web design firm to get her feet wet. The starting pay may be small or none, but the real-world experience will be priceless.
