The majority of them would never have come to the US if Fidel had not been in power. They came here to escape his repressive regime. They still have family and friends in Cuba. Knowing he may be dieing gives them hope for those still living in Cuba. And that they might be able to visit them and/or return to Cuba to live. After 5 decades of living under communism who can blame them for celebrating, albeit prematurely.

Many of their relatives are still stuck in Cuba.
Besides that, many American-Cubans had horrible lives under Castro's regime, and they're just thrilled he's gone for now.

Because many of them have family still living in Cuba. Unfortunately, Fidel's brother is set to take over, and he's even worse!
