That was an ignorant thing to do. And getting caught makes it worse! Your the reason average people can't afford to buy things in regular stores any more.

The chances are pretty good that you'll be able to find a job later in life. If you're 17, you could still be prosecuted as a minor. Andwhen you turn 18, your criminal record as a minor is sealed under state law.
Unless you have previous offenses and a long record - you don't have to worry about being charged as an adult (depending on the value of the item(s) too).
Get an attorney who has dealt with this sort of thing before, and good luck!

why did u do that?it doesnt even sound like u regret it, which means if u did get a job, u wouldn't really care about that either, and u'll end up losing it for doing something else stupid. U need to think about the consequences, and be more serious about your life. I'm 17 and in Texas too, and I wouldn't even give a second thought to being around someone who doesn't care about their life. thats just what u sound like, if u really do care, then sorry for being so harsh. Get with the program, our generation is supposed to be the one that makes a POSITIVE impact on our world, especially those of us from Texas. Think about the example your setting for all the younger people, and u know that we grew up watching all of that stuff on tv about what we are not supposed to do, so I just dont understand WHY you would do it.

It will be on your record forever. That is for the rest of your life. You may get off easy this time. BUT the next time, you buy the farm and probably get the max. And, you will do it as far as every minute of your time. Instead of stealing something you want, why let your appetite and want of stuff ruin your life. Just do without until you can get it legally.

Why do you need a job if you can shoplift???
Texas is bad with respect to that. It won't be erased, but don't worry too much: many employers won't care about what you did as a silly kid if your education is good enough.

You do the crime, you do your time. The court who has jurisdiction can seal this record when you have completed probation or whatever sentence you received. Juvenile crimes are rarely held against an adult unless they are stupid enough to repeat the criminal behavior.

You're not an adult and it's not a felony.... relax and don't do it again. You will be fine with no record.
