Its a freaking continent ...like Asia and Europe! Get enlightened people!!! and we are normal....and really rich too! loads of people drive hummers and there are also other countries apart from South Africa!...so there!

To answer your question: there are a lot of uninformed people in the world. Until someone is nice enough to let them know that it is a continent without shoving it down their throat of what they didn't know, people will keep on thinking that Africa is a country instead of a continent.

So we are all thick,ignorant and stupid while you are all clever and rich. How come then it is the poorest Continent on the Earth with the lowest literacy rates. You are obviously one of those rich.spoiled white South Africans who has yet to learn that material wealth is not the only way to measure people and you should try and get some real values in life. Umm... you haven't really asked a question. But I guess ignorant ill-informed people think it's a country because they don't watch the news, don't bother to find out about the world, and get their primary information about Africa from those charity ads with photos of starving 'African' kids (rather than 'Somali' or 'Kenyan' or whatever). Maybe it's a hangover from colonialism?

People are retarded, uninformed. There are atrocities going on all over East Africa - Sudan. Uganda, Kenya....etc and most Americans don't even know where these countries are. But they can tell you exactly who won the last three episodes of Survivor. It is truly sad how little we care about the world and our fellow human beings!

OMG thank you so mych I am sick and tired of hearing about South Africa. I hope to travel to as many African countries in my life. The worst thing is that The Crackhead scammers of Nigeria ruin the country for many visitors

I think if African countries had more success in things like the Olympics, World Cup or represenation on the G8 then the world might start to appreciate that not all African countries are one continental mass.
