The 70's were about Bonham and Moon, IMHO. And Peter Criss.
Nowadays it is hard to say, as there are so many good ones that nobody really stands out from the crowd.

Neil Peart of Rush...Trust me on this one!! If you get the Rush in Rio/R30 DVD, you'll be absolutely amazed! They started touring in 1975 and just did their 30th anniversary tour.
If you're into learning drum's, Peart has an excellent DVD - Anatomy of a Drummer. It's a bit pricey but he's the BEST...hands down. You can find his DVD under "Rush" (Amazon, etc.).

The best drummer from the 70's is John Bohnam from led zeppelin. A close second would be keith moon from the who.
Nowadays the best in my opinion would have to be lars ulrich from metallica. i dont think anyone comes close to him right now.

Butch Vig, Garbage
Dave Grohl, Nirvana (he doesn't really drum in the Foo Fighters?)
They've actually worked together and toured together.
I don't know any others because I'm more of a guitar girl.
