I wanted to lock my daughter out but suddenly I locked myself out and I don't even know my Windows XP Professional user name or password. I started it in safe mode and it prompts me to enter my password. "Owner" is already entered in the user name spot. Anything I do it wants user name and password which I don't know. Help!!!

ok try this restart the pc as the pc is starting up keep hitting the f8 key on the keybored you will come to a menu pick safe mode then as the pc goes into safe mode click on addmin login
when your on the desktop click on start/control panel then click on user accounts icon then click on the user account icon with the locked out password

then click on change password put in a new password and copy that down on paper so you dont forget it and then close off the user account box by clicking on the red X at the top right
restart your pc then when windows comes to the use account login screen click on the user account you reset your password on and type in your password and windows xp should load too the desktop if it dont start over and this time change user id if that dont work start over again and delete the user id then make a new user id when your back on the desktop and copy down the password if you are going to set a password again

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. The only way to reset your windows password 100% safe is to use a software called Reset Password Pro.

The software allows you to create a boot-disk, that can be made on a CD/DVD or USB stick. The boot-disk can then be inserted into any locked machine, and it's a simple case of pressing reset. Here is their official site: http://www.resetwindowspass.com

Reset you password
or
Keep a password crack program handy (ie. on floppy disk)

I think a free software download is Asterix.exe (it basically translate passwords that is already on your computer eg. windows login, stored email passwords etc)

Just do google search for password software...

Hope this helps

Restart your machine, normally..and press control alt delete just once...

another box should come up...

where you can type in your name or any admin name and the password.
