I have paid my rent for august, and me and my family have to re-locate, my fiancee is moving on the 5th and I would like to follow shortly after...Is it possible, if my rent is paid, I can leave before the end of the month (for example on the 16th of august??) I really dont see why this would be an issue, seeing as the month is paid and the landlord has a possibility of getting extra rent for the month (ie, if someone moves in mid-month, could he not collect a few weeks rent from then as well as my rent, which would essentially profit him??) thanks for the help.

As far as the law is concerned, you need to give at least one month's written notice to terminate the contract. If you are tied into a fixed term which ends more than one month in the future, you will be liable until the end of that term.

In reality, it is at the discretion of the Landlord when he will allow you to leave. Usually what happens is that you leave when you like but the Landlord will expect you to pay until a new tenant moves in. He cannot legally take rent from 2 different people for the same period so will expect you to uphold your obligations until a new tenancy commences (unless he is very, very nice!).

Basically, you need to liaise with your Landlord and come to an agreement. Just remeber that if he agrees for you to leave early and a new tenant moves in before the end of August, you are entitled to the rent back which you have paid which would cover any period of the new tenancy.

If you are not in a lease for longer than the one month then you can move whenever you want .

Yes, 1 month min. written notice. But, if you have a contract you may not until the contract expires.

Ask your landlord and tell him when you want to leave. You do NOT want to be accused of 'abandoning' the apartment. Then you risk losing your security deposit.

Good luck!

You can move out whenever you want, you do however have to honor any obligations in your lease. (i.e length of notice, keeping on utilities etc.)
