I wash all my brushes in my sink if it's latex, and being a owner of a paint company I usually wash 4 a day for the past 20 years.
Never harmed my sink or plumbing.

Brushes used with latex, will clean with plain water.Clean throughly! You can rub the bristles against a bar of soap and really work the soap into the brush and rinse well.Use Mineral spirits for oil based paint. For rollers, buy cheap rollers and toss them after use.You never really get all the paint out of the rollers. When they dry, they are not really any good for another paint job.If you really want to clean them, rinse rinse, rinse in cold water until the water runs clear.Alot of work.

Wash with soap and water before the paint dries. Hosing them down outside works well, also, but can leave a mess if you don't have much of a lawn. Wear plastic gloves to avoid getting paint on your hands.
