Yes, unmistakably. But so is the Christian. And it is very clear in the bible. Within man is the desire to worship something, but not according to directive. He wants to do so according to his nature. What is that nature?
Mohammed was a man.
Men deified him in so doing.
In the Christian belief, and many Muslims believe the bible to be inerrant, but do not believe Jesus died on the cross. Jesus is declared God, not only in the new testament, but in the new.
It is expressly forbidden to make a likeness to him. The only one we should look for, is in Isaiah, chapter fifty three.
So we see Christian and Muslim doing the same thing, and the book says another.
I can only think; " ... by their works you shall know them ... "
What think ye?

Not really - because they are holding the IDEA of Mohammed to be higher than pictures, so kicking up a fuss about it is protection of their views, rather than idolising him in a cult of the personality type way. The picture in itself could be viewed as an idol because it is a thing - holding the idea that people don't make pictures of him sacred is an idea, which is different to it being an idol.
Hope that's not too confusing...

Frank 'the Limo-man' - are you crazy?
Who are you refering to?
Are you just having a bit of a racist mental moment? A credit to your country, son!
There haven't been either christians or muslims for any more than about 1800 years!
Or do you just mean we humans. Coz we do like to have stupid reasons for doing things. And religion is a great excuse for being horrible to each other and for destroying our only planet...
As to the original question....
The worship of images is what is generally considered idolitry. Are they still worshipping images if they only express their fear of them... if they make the images into their own 'Heart of Darkness'?
Well, probably.

the straightforward answer--because they are forbidden, and doing something the religion forbids is offensive. My idea? because any photo of Mohammed is going to be a lie that in a roundabout way attracts interest faraway from who and what Mohammed incredibly changed into and is. yet it truly is only my personal opinion.

Idol worship is a bad idea because people have this habit of turning their leaders into idols, and worshipping them while forgetting their ideals.
Look what has happened to most world religions they turned their founders into idols, instead of following their ideals. Finding our inner idols is far more important than worshipping outer replicas of them.
That is when spiritual rituals take precedent over being spiritual, life which is simply being of the spirit, and allowing the spirit to express thru them.
As for the picture controversy, if someone made an offensive image of your great great great grandfather whom you have a no recollection or image of or who wanted no image of his taken, wouldn't it still hurt you?

Muslims also believe in the Virgin Mary just like Christians

Good point. You are right. It is kinda of like putting him on a pedestal. Makes me think of burning the villiage to the ground to save it kind of thing.

thou shall not worship fallen idols, isnt the muslim reaction to the near image of thier god the same as the instruction for the bible followers, and to follow your constructed question ergo are not all followers of the bible who worship images of thier diety idolators, or was the bible aimed at non christian followers of the teachings of thier god, you cannot just single out one faith, others have the same or similiar instruction to thier followers, i take your point about the worship of the muslim god but you can apply the same across all faiths.
