Wow...you know, now that I think about it, I've had many, many happy days. I find it hard to choose just one. But, since your question asks us to...
It was the summer after my senior year of high school. I had a minimum wage job, but hey, it was honest-to-God work, only part-time and I was going to college in the fall. My best friend and I were sharing one last summer before we went our separate ways (he was joining the army). We used to take long bike rides (or sometimes drives) in the evenings, often into the woods along unofficial but well-beaten trails.
On this particular night, we found ourselves on a vacant road, right near an abandoned dam. The silence was so absolute it was deafening. We just walked along the edge of the dam, goofing around and talking about the crazy ideas in our heads. We were at that age where every new idea feels like a kind of revelation, and we hadn't had so many cares back then.
It's difficult to explain the kind of electric tingle I felt then...the realization that anything was possible, and most importantly that I could make my life anything I wanted it to be. I guess you could say that I was awakened to the possibilities of existence. It felt like being touched by the hand of God. The excitement, the anticipation, just the sheer joy of being alive...unbelievable.
Thanks for the question. It's nice to sit back and remember, sometimes.

I have been sick for much of my life. In 2004 I spent the last 3 months of the year in the hospital. I missed Thanksgiving, but got home just before Christmas. The following year, I was able to spend Thanksgiving with my family at my brother's new home here in Maine. He had the fire going in the living room and we all gathered there. It was beautiful. A friend of the family brought there 2 1/2 year old girl. She was our entertainment. It was peaceful and loving and just plain joyous. It's the only word I can think of to describe it. She sat in a high chair at dinner and didn't want to eat. She kept stuffing her food behind her in her chair trying to hide it. We had all of the traditional Thanksgiving foods and deserts. I'll never forget that day.

My sister was very abusive to me while I was growing up. The day she left home after her marriage was the happiest day in my life. After the car turned the corner, my brother and I jumped, screamed, and turned flips in the street. I know now how the slaves felt when slavery was over. She in turn abused her husband and child. The husband moved away and I rescued the child.

I was up all night at my daughter's side while she gave birth to my granddaughter. I watched her being born. I have never felt so close to anyone ever before and we were both ecstatic when we saw that precious little face for the first time. She is still a joy and the most beautiful person I know.

i was in the field. it was warm, and there was a breeze. the grass was swaying. it made noise as the air passed over it, i was with my pony. i just sat there next to her as she ate. i thought about nothing, absolutely nothing. i just sat, and let the sun come down on me, while the wind blew though my hair. i still feel it.
