Yes, it does bother me. I think if parents (of "tweens" on up) and grandparents start using the word that will ensure its rapid death. I'd start saying it to help you, but my sponge of a four year old son is copying any and every catch phrase right now. If I said ghetto once, it would come back to haunt me.

It does not disturb me, it just sounds pretty ignorant how some glamorize the ghetto life. When in truth, most would leave in a heart-beat never to look back. Many people capitalize on this " Ghetto mentality. Some put there money where there mouth is after they are able to get out, but not as many as don't. Ghetto life is a part of humanity just as trailer parks and cardboard shacks. We all have our own woes, whether in "the ghetto or anywhere else"

No, what disturbs me is actually being in the ghetto. Last weekend, I stayed with a good friend who lives in the projects. Talk about freaky...can't imagine having to live there. I was just sure we'd be mugged or something.

I use it all the time...my mom finds it VERY irritating. Right before I got a professional job I used it in a sentence around her. She informed me that I better not speak that way around a professional if I want to get hired. (I know better than that! I had straight A's through college and I have "work speak" and "not-at-work speak".)

not really, it doesn't offend me. but it makes me wonder if people have forgotten what that word really had meant when it was first used and i wonder if they remember how much pain and suffering and poverty originated in that word. now its slang for everything, but when it was first used it had meant the poorest of the poor and it just shows how people can over look the painful past and make a joke out of things.
