I believe there is a 3 foot wide strip at the start/finish line

The Start/Finish line is all that is left. That is about a yard wide. The yard of bricks becomes magical to the driver the crosses them first on race day.

one yard the rest is under the current surface of asphalt and concrete. They alson fire a canon before every race at Indy to alert the farmers because the noise bothers the cows
