Soil degradation is the using up of soil minerals and other materials as crops grow in it. Different crops use up different things so it is a good idea to rotate crops. Some crops like legumes are grown to plow under to replace the nitrogen in the soil.Any plant parts that are plowed under help replace minerals. Fertilizers put in certain minerals like nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus. Natural fertilizers from animals replace more.
