I have heard that toyota is coming out with a new hybrid car that is similiar to the prius sometime in 2007. I heard that this car will be a plug in style electric and will also have a gas powered motor that will also charge the battery. It will suposedly be able to go 60 miles on the battery alone before the gas needs to kick in. Please help me find out what this car will be called, when it will come out, how much it will cost, and how i can sign up on the list so i can get one : ) all info helps Thanks in advance!

I'm sure it'll cost a little more than the hybrids out now. Also, the hybrid vehicles out there also has the engine charging the battery. In fact, all vehicles out there can charge their battery while running the car. The engine basically acts as a generator. The only reason why we need to replace batteries is because of the capacity to store energy in diminishes over time. And thanks fo the info on the Prius sequel. I'm looking to buy a hybrid in a couple of years so I'll keep an eye out for it.

Well being i just watched something about this on Discovery channel about a week ago....

There isn't a specific car they are putting out with that technology in it. But they were testing it on the Prius. There are a few kits you can buy to transform a Prius into a plug-in also but they run in the thousands. Not to burst your bubble but i don't think you'll see that in a car next year, but maybe in a couple. Of course i'm not in the automotive industry but these are the things i've read and heard.

I've heard the same news report about this. Toyota said that they WILL introduce a plug-in hybrid soon. I have not tried to research this, but commonly new model issues such as its name are not finalized until the last minute.

If you really need to have one of the first production units, then you should start talking to several Toyota dealers now. Although, you could probably save some dollars by waiting a year after introduction.

Toyota.com is very helpful and can give you a list of local dealerships, you can get your name put on a list, hopefully, and then not have to wait the crazy amount of time people had to wait for their Prius (I had to wait almost 9 months). I don't know any other details about the car than what you have mentioned, but a dealership might have more help for you.

The new hybrid system is called "THS II". Here is the link. I think 2007 is the time frame for Japan for model year 2008. Don't expect it in the ROW until 2010.
