Within any different field of engineering there are so many different types of work you could try and still use your degree. Mechanical engineers do hands on design, CAD work, project management, people management, sales, write code, and a million other things. If you managed to get through school, you're got an open world of opportunity to explore within your field. Don't get discouraged by one job that you don't like. The different jobs within engineering vary so much that there is sure to be one you like.

A lot of engineers will pursue MBAs after engineering - you could give that a try if you have good grades and like school.. and like the business / finance field. I have a Mech. Eng. BASc and have contemplated it from time to time - just haven't had the time to look into it in great detail yet.

Good luck

Consider working for overseas aid agencies. You might find at some point that your knowledge becomes extremely relevant.

Then you're wasting your time, your energy, your money (or somebody else's money) and you'll regret those wasted years not doing something which you might have enjoyed
