Because every SIM card has a unique number associated with it. If both phones had the same number, which would ring when a call came in?

Might be something to do with emergencies. I used to answer 999 calls and with mobiles calls would come in with a zone code and automatically route the caller via (us operators) to the local station nearest their signal.. if you had 2 with same number that could muck up the system..

i hav 2 phones n one number. but not at the same time. cuz u hav 2 switch the sim card back n forth to each phone. u cant hav 2 sim cards.

You CAN if you are on a contract (request replacement SIM). BUT, it REALLY screws with the system if they are both in use at the same time......
