Lets say the government takes a radical turn and everyone will now pay a 75% flat tax, and the proceeds will be used to feed, clothe, educate and medicate the world for the good of all mankind. Would you happy to go along with this? Would the concept of drastically reducing your standard of living for the benefit of people on other continents be too abstract to motivate you?

I posit that this is why there can be no such thing as a Utopian society, or a kinder, gentler society. (ala Bush I) Its just not possible for humans. What do you think?

Are you assuming that every one is equal and of good moral fiber? How many people would abuse the charity of the working taxpayers. If you add up all the taxes we're pushing 50% now and very little is going humanitarian purposes. No, I would not reduce my standard of living because I've worked hard to achieve it.

Socialism of the type you advocate is possible, but only in small communities (like kibbutzes). The greater the size of implementation, the greater the odds that someone will corrupt or exploit the system (cf. the Soviet Union). Humans are just too flawed to execute ideal systems.

Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and he eats forever. Far more can be accomplished by showing people how to succeed. Success is sucked dry by a 75% tax rate. Get real!

I hate evrythign thing the Government does, so I wouldn't like it, and wouldn't go along with it, because it would more than likely be a conspiracy.

It will never happen so the question is academic, but I would not agree to it.
