Are you supposed to throw your own house warming party?

You can if you want to, but it is in bad taste to expect gifts. Gifts are more common when a friend takes the initiative to throw a house warming party for you.

Good luck with your new home.

Well if you don't throw it would that mean someone else would throw the party in your house? Or they throw it in someone elses house?

But then that really wouldn't be your house warming party. So the logical conclusion is yes.
