Right now I'm working like 15 minutes from home. My mom lives er route to my job, so i drop my son off with her on the way. So, needless to say, it's convenient. My job pays pretty well for a local job... BUT IT'S BORING AS HELL. My day sometimes drags along. I like to be busy all day, so that my day goes by quicker. Which is not so bad, since I start school in the fall & I could use the down time. I've been considering looking around to see what else is out there. My mom says that's stupid as hell. What do u guys think?

I can see why you hate being on a job that's boring, but truthfully, it sounds like you have a pretty sweet deal, at least for the time being. I wouldn't add the additional stress of switching jobs along with starting school in the fall. What if your new employer isn't as school-friendly as your current one? Also, that short commute is to be envied, along with the fact that you have convenient (and safe) day care en route. My suggestion would be to try to make the best of your current situation at work. If you're bored, maybe you could ask your supervisor for additional responsibilities?

I understand completely being bored in the work place. I am the type person that likes to stay busy and I get bored with things I have already done over and over and then I don't feel challenged. My suggestion to you is that you do whatever you feel will make you the happiest. No matter what anyone suggests or tells you, you yourself only know what you really want to do. It boils down to risks. It might be risky for you to do something out of the box, but in order to achieve success and happiness relative to your career goals you have to step out sometimes and take those risk. I don't think you should jump right into something else without much research, but In my opinion it doesn't hurt to look and see what is out there. If you are a challenge driven person then the same old day to day boring job is not going to always work whether it is convenient or not. Looking won't hurt anything. You may or may not find something that will benefit you in your situation, but you won't lose anything just by looking.

i think that it never hurts to look. you may find another job that's convenient and pays well. if you don't, you'll be more grateful for what you have! and yes, it sounds like the current job might be good for a student, giving you time to study instead of being bored. of course at most jobs, there are usually more things you could be doing instead of staring at the walls - but who am i to talk? i'm on answers at work right now lol!

Make a note of the businesses along the way that you would be qualified to work at and start sending out resumes. That way, the drive would probably be the same if you can get on at one of them.
