how do i burn a movie to a DVD?

ive downloaded movies from limewire but they're mpg file and i understand it has to be dvd file. i have a program called WinAVI Video Converter but with that program it doesnt let me convert mpg to dvd. only others like mpeg to avi and then avi to dvd. ive tried downloading them under avi file but it never works...
any suggestions on what i could do?
and i also need to know what program to burn them with.

get NERO 7, will burn anything...

anything else sucks... roxio... etc...
