If you are talking about Geocaching.com, you can archive a geocache, meaning that it will no longer be active or listed, but the cache's page remains for the benefit of previous finders. A moderator can unapprove a cache, which is to make it appear as if it never existed, but that's very rarely done, especially if it's been active for a while. I don't know exactly how other geocaching sites handle their listings, but I would guess that it's similarly done.
