I will soon be receiving a job offer and I may need a Physical Exam. I'm kinda nervous...I haven't had one in 5 years. I will most likely go to my own docotor. I'm 22 years old, and I'm worried the doc might do a pelvic exam/pap smear. I don't want a doc touching me there. I guess my question is this: At a physical with a internal med doc, would he/she do a pelvic exam/pap smear? What have your experiences been? THANKS!

For employment you won't have to have a pap smear, but you should be having a pap smear every year, whether you are having sex or not.

Honey, when we didn't have modern medicine the life span of a female was way less than it is now - know why? We can have ourselves checked out by a doctor on a regular basis and catch any problems quick, not just when they start showing symptoms and it may be to late.

I hate the damnnn exam too, but I do it, I want to be here for the ones I love.

PEACE!

You shouldn't need an internal examine or pap smear for a job physical because it isn't job-related (unless it was for a job where you would be needing those parts...). You are right to think your internist will want to do these tests if you are not current, but you don't have to agree to it. I would encourage you to get it over with for your own health and peace of mind. But maybe you should find a physician you feel comfortable talking to about your trepidations. Do it at another time when you aren't busy with other changes in your life like a new job.

usually a physical does not involve a pap test, but at 22 you should be getting one EVERY YEAR even if you are not having sex, keeping yourself healthy involves taking care of your entire health. All women over 18 should get paps every year, no matter their sexual activity, you can still have problems even without sex.
A Physical is usualy just a general test of your health, like body mass index and listening to your heart, they will also likely make you pee in a cup, but a think a pevlic is a bit to much information for any job, unless you are working in the sex industry, and it doesn't sound like you are. Remember anything that you tell your doctor having to do with this exam for work becomes part of your work record, so if you have anything to talk about with the doctor do not do it with this appointment.

Employment physicals are very minor...height/weight, blood pressure heart rate, look at your eyes, in your ears, bang on your knee for reflex. Unless there's a drug test, then you pee in cup too.

If you're terrified of having a pelvic exam, go to a female doctor. Much less violating. This would not be part of the employment testing. You should have one if you are 22. It's really not that bad.
