All Ike does is play golf all day.
The Ruskies are gonna be dropping bombs from them Sputniks right into our school yards.
We should have elected Adlai Stevenson when we had the chance.
We need Grover Cleveland back in the Whitehouse.
Even Truman wouldn't have put up with this.
That Sputnik flyin by looking in our windows.

I remember when Sputnik was announced. At first I thought it was an American satellite as I though America was on top of it. Eisenhower was the president at the time but he was too layed back and was not aggressive about science and technology.
When I found out it was a Russian satellite I was angry at the USA government for allowing that to happen.
But the USA was internally involved in integration and our attention was absorbed by how to desegrate the schools and remove the aparthied system of racial segration in the South. We had to find a way to break out of the heritage of ignorance, fundamentalism, and hatred and it has taken us generations to make significant gains. Likewise, it will take generations to accomplish the goals of democratization in the Middle East.

While Ike was not the best president he was not the worst. Many things happened during his two terms. The interstate road system built roads and created jobs. It was a good time in America. The cold war was at its peak and Ike played golf. He did make the whole country feel like everything was well. I set under my desk many days preparing for the atomic bomb. Ahhh those were the days.

Golly, yes! Imagine! Outer Space! If those awful Russkies bring back any Martians, Ike will have our troops right there and waiting to blast em! My brother has a book with pictures of those little green guys, so if they come to our town, we'll know them on sight! Gotta go! Toodles!
