The hammer of a loaded gun moves forward when the gun is fired. Most guns require a two stage firing process...when the triger is pulled it brings the hammer down to fire the bullet. It is a part of our ultra violent culture that we seems to collectively know "how" a gun operates when fired.

I have no clue. It's just been picked up by the culture as the common way to pull an air trigger on an air gun. It's fun anyway.

I think it is simulating the movement of the hammer on the back of the gun. But seriously, little kids do a lot of things that defy explanation.
