in today's economy there is no way in hell people could make it on minimum wage. in my opinion. especially with the price of gas and depending on were you live the cost of living. they need to raise it. when i first started working in 1997 the minimum wage was 5.00 an hour i got a raise when it went to 5.15 and hour. has not gone up since. how ridiculous is that?

With pay cuts they can use the money to do other things such as better our government. I agree that they're making their citizens poorer, but minimum pay encourages people to work harder so they would get more money. To get minimum wage all you have to go is work at a place like McDonalds, something that requres very less working skills. Even teenagers could do work like this. Making the minimum wage so low encourages people to shoot higher and stay in the same line of work to build a better repuation. The general poor of the United States will still be poor, and even if you raised the minimum wage to $8 most people would still not be able to pay their bills. Instead of complaining, people should try to better themselves and their career lines so they can work for something better than minimum wage.

On the surface it seems like a no brainer to raise the minimum wage, but companies on a tight budget will have to lay off workers whose wages have to go up. Instead of 100 workers making crap money, there will be 80 making a bit more, and 20 out of work...

If you're an adult and only making minimum wage you're an idiot. Go to school and get some skills instead of blaming those evil Republicans because you're too stupid to live. Minimum wage is for teenagers working their first jobs and still living at home. If mommy and/or daddy didn't teach you how to be a productive member and support yourself, that's your problem.

Of course a raise will only help for a couple of years, once it goes up, some companies fire a person to two to save money, others merely raise the price they charge.

So your happy meal will go up form 3.50 to 4.50 shortly after.

I am not saying it should not go up but the pepole on min wage will never do any better, since thier ability to pay bills don't change

Here is a free life lesson...Don't live beyond your means.

If you think your minimum wage should be raised go to Sacramento or Albany or Tallahassee or wherever and get it raised. Stay out of Washington D.C. The cost of living in back woods Arkansas is not the same as midtown Manhattan. Forcing a change in places where it is not needed WILL result in unemployment.

ther eis no way anybody could make it on their own by making $824 a month before taxes . But there is no reason to because america is full of oppurtunity and you can do whatever you put your mind to . Minimum wage is only good for teenagers to learn work ethic and adults who failed in life

i'm not taking a stand on it but minimum wage is for people who still live at home with their parents. no one can actually make it on minimum wage. you have to do something more, something else to earn a higher wage.

Hell no-
Those Republicans and capitalism whores... I don't know what to say. Its impossible to since the US gov. does very little help or aid to the poor. Min. wage would be completely poverty in 90% of the cities in America. Its sad.

definite, if the employers do no longer replace them with extra illegals. The worst element of this, the Senate voted against an exchange to the bill that should limit employers from firing human beings to hire the illegals/became legals at decrease wages.
