My ex said he used to wash his tennis shoes in the washer. I was wondering if anyone has done this before, and if so did they turn out ok? Do you put them in the sun to dry or the dryer? My 3 year old daughters shoes are pretty dirty, I've never done this before and just would like opinions, thanks.

Guess I don't know what material they are their just Nike brand regular kids tennis shoes. Sounds like putting them out to dry would be best.

It is possible to clean the fabric on shoes like you would anything else. I would put them in alone, on heavy duty cycle. You could pretreat them, or soak them in a bucket. Use a little oxy clean powder if they are fabric (not for leather). If they are leather use murphys oil soap and skip the washer.

If you use a dryer to dry them, chances are you will melt the soles. So you should never dry them that way. The best way is lots of sunlight, between the sun and air they can dry in a day.

If they are regular tennis shoes you can. Wash on gentle cycle and just let dry in the sun. It will take a day or two. Be prepared for 1/2 hour of annoying thumping coming from the washing machine though!

Yeah, I have thrown sneakers in the washer and let them air dry after. I think it is ok so long as the sneakers are not leather or have lights in them (kids ones sometimes do). At first, I did not like the idea of putting filthy, muddy shoes in the place where I wash my clothes and linens. I just hosed off all the surface dirt first. They came out verty nice and new looking.

There should be no problem with washing them in the machine, but don't dry them in dryer. The fastest way to dry shoes is to place them in front of the refrigerator. The fan blows warm air out the bottom and it works well.

Yes. I have washed shoes before. It works best if you can remove the inner liners first. You also want to spot treat really dirty areas. You can either put them outside to dry or put them in the dryer. I don't have an outside line, so I put my shoes in the dryer.

depends on the fabric of the shoe as well.. I've put shoes in the washer but after the dryer they came out smaller and tight fitting... it might be best to just take a hose to them, scrub and then leave in the sun... heavy items like shoes can also damage the washer or dryer if not wrappped in something but then again they don't dry as well if they are wrapped...

Yes you can wash tennis shoes in the washer. I would not dry them in the dryer unless it was on the air fluff setting. Drying in the sun is best for white 'cause the sun seems to get them whiter.

Washing machine is fine for sneakers, let them air dry in the sun or somewhere not too humid (to avoid a sour smell)....if you put them in the dryer, they might get too tight to put back on and be uncomfortable for a few wearings......
