Faustian Childrens Book?

I read a book as a kid that had a sort of scientist as the main protagonist, who happened to sell his soul to the devil... it was very Faustian in nature. I can't seem to remember the name or author of the book and was wondering if anyone could help me out. Thanks!

It was around 1993. There abouts.
