I’m on social security disability and often it can be very difficult. Many people will have to hire and attorney to be able to receive it but try without one first as you will have to pay them for their services and may be able to do it yourself. Sometimes you do not need one. I did not and was not turned down the first time I went. Most of the time you will be turned down the first time and if you are then reapply right away. After you are accepted you will have to wait for 6 months for the first check and the first one will be for the back 6 months so it will be a large one. After that you will receive a check or deposit in your bank account on a certain date every month. I think it is the same for everyone and that is the 3rd. Direct deposit is the best way to go as the check can get lost in the mail or delivered to the wrong address just like regular mail. Call up the office in your area and ask for an appointment and what documentation they will need. Bring everything they ask you to bring. You may be asked to see a doctor and they will set up the appointment and pay for the doctor or any other test they require. Make sure you keep these appointments or reschedule as soon as you know you have to. If you get turned down after the last attempt they allow you ask how long you need to wait to apply again. Remember you will not get rich on SSD and will barely be able to make ends meet. It is better to work if you can.
