Toss up between Thorpe Park & Chessington. For me Chessington edges it. I took my 12 year old recently and we had a fantastic day.
I think it would cater well for both the 5 & 13 year old as there is a good spread of rides ranging from those clearly aimed at younger children through to excilerating gut-wrenchers.
For me what gives Chessington the edge is the really nice zoo with a great selection of animals, mostly endangered.

You can book tickets online at http://www.rialtoplus.com/rialtoplus/ConsumerControlServlet/home/initialise?webId=Chessington&.sys.ext.webabacus_id=1154472325562-1

The Theme Park I have found that seems to cater for all ages is Thorpe Park.
I had the same problem but I had 2 young uns and 2 older children, we did try other theme parks like Alton Towers and Chessington but they seemed more for the older children only offering several rides for the young ones.
I have been taking my children to Thorpe Park now for the past 4 years and I don`t think there is a better one yet.

I would say Thorpe Park.
Many of the theme parks like Alton Towers and Chessington cater more for teenagers.
Thorpe Park is also good for the younger children too.
There`s plenty of rides for all!

Disneyland is the obvious choice, but Atlanta has a good Six Flags near Stone Mountain...could be fun.
