How long should you keep a small window unit running? Does it need to be shut off for a period of time to let the unit cool down? Or can it be left running for days? It's only about 1 year old, but the owner cant find the owner's manual.

They WILL run ok for a few days.

The newer ones are nice, 500 watts and light and maybe $100.
They really work. I use them any time it gets over 90F.

I let mine run for days at a time during the summer. It is six years old and still running. However it's not a window unit. It's the kind that's mounted into the wall.

Let it run. If it burns up it wasn't any good to begin with.
It's normal for it to produce heat from the outside end of the unit, that's how it works by taking heat from the inside and blowing it out to the outside.

no longer undesirable. harm it up so it is not in a bite, and cautious to no longer instruct him right into a 'Gary Stu' (male equivalent of the Mary Sue). The towered over line sounds slightly intimidating- like a bully, fairly than a protector.

I would definitely turn it off once in a while. It's an electronic device -- it can overheat. The more you use it, the more it wears down.
