...the Lebanese government to the degree that it could secure the south of the country under the UN resolution ?

I'm not sure if people understand my point !
Poor countries ,especially those that are recovering from war ,almost all receive some form of aid . I don't imagine Lebanon was able to rebuild without financial support . Yet whilst Israel receives massive support for it's army ,Lebanon presumably didn't ,since it's army isn't powerful enough to take on the Hizbollah militants.
Of course Hizbollah is a social organisation ,that has ,with assistance from Syria and Iran been able to provide a lot of social support for many Lebanese , so there is the question of whether politically it would be possible to take them on without returning to civil war and all those horrors.
However the US ,UK and Israel, are putting that matter to one side , in which case why not provide the neccessary funds ,to the appropriate government ?

if you have some time, take a look at the history of UN Security Council Resolutions and Vetoes. Right now, you will see that the media, the politicos, and pundits are all talking Resolution 1559. Take a look at the dozens and dozens that get no exposure and then you'll start to see how power works. The US and Israel are virtually alone in the world on the issue of Israel and Palestine. In UN General Assembly votes you will see that usually the whole world wants rights for Palestinians to exist - rights that you and I take for granted, which Israel refuses to grant Palestinians enabled by diplomatic and military support from the US. It's actually kind of funny if you can ignore the human suffering because there are votes that usually go something like 99 vs. 3 and the 3 will be US, Israel and whoever the US bribed for that occasion. It's always a tiny country like the Marshall Islands or Micronesia. Just take a look and see who most blocks the UN from functioning as it should. To bring some peace and accountability in international affairs.

I don't think the Lebanese government invited others to come in and help them secure the south from Hezbollah. If they had, Israel would not have to be doing it this way, now.

Will of power, we just don't want to support kidnapers !!! Israel is not at war with Lebanon but with the Hezbollah, same way USA is not at war with Afghanistan but with Taliban !!

What do you think ??

Because Middle Eastern powers either support Hezbollah or are afraid of those that do.
Western powers, especially European ones, know that to oppose Hezbollah is to offend Iran, and OIL IS KING.
