Could a UTI (Urinary tract infection) affect the results of an Home Pregnancy Test? I've taken two FIRST RESPONDS and they both have lines lighter than the control line. Just started antibiotics (after the tests) for the UTI but I'm wondering if the UTI could have given a false positive.

If I'm pregnant, it would be exactly 2 weeks now, I’m taking the antibiotics from yesterday evening and I took the test yesterday right in the morning. I have such a crams now, I feel like my periods are coming any minute... I know this could be also sign of pregnancy, it is just weird since I know I should be getting my periods today or tomorrow... will see, anyhow, tomorrow will be my BIG DAY :)

A faint line still means positive.

Home pregnancy tests do not typically give a false positive, (it is more common to give a false negative). If you were on some sort of hormone treatment, that could do it, but antibiotics are not known to flub up a pregnancy test. Actually if you are on birth control pills and you're put on an antibiotic, you're urged to use a back-up method of birth control because the antibiotic will compromise the effectiveness of the pill, making it easier to get pregnant.

When you have a UTI, you only typically secrete blood or protiens in your urine, not the hormone that the test is looking for.

You should call a doctor and have it confirmed one way or another. It will give you the piece of mind that you need!

Good luck!

Pg tests test for the pregnancy hormone, which will only be present if you are pregnant (unless you are on certain fertility drugs or had hCG trigger shot to help release an egg). A second line means the pg. hormone was detected, so it's positive, regardless of how light the line is. And I've never heard of a UTI giving a false positive result. So, CONGRATS!

NO a UTI will not give you a false positive... the only thing that could give you a false positive is certain fertility drugs... so Congrats!!!

I don't think UTI has anything to do with it doesn't matter how light the line is all that matters is there is a line!!
