to adopt these days & raise the child themselves?

It's definitely common among celebrities today, good Lord!
I wouldn't say it's "common" but it's accepted. There are millions of single women out there perfectly capable of raising children, but either can't physically have kids, or just haven't found the right guy. In most agencies the birth mother and father are solely responsible for picking whom they would like to adopt their baby. It's not something that's decided by the agency themselves. If it's something you think you might be interested in I'd suggest you call a few agencies if your area and have them send you some information. It's a long process...so get your foot in the door now.

I wouldn't say common, a there are still so many children who need good homes. Not common enough, I'd say!
Not common enough that these children find loving homes regardless of the gender of the adoptive parents.
